Changes to the driving test

Posted on Feb 18, 2015

There has been a lot of recent press about changes to the driving test. Learners may be asked to use a Sat Nav as part of a revised practical exam and the “turn in the road” may be scrapped altogether.

The practical test has existed in its current form for almost 20 years, although “independent driving” has recently been added, where motorists find their own way to a destination. The proposed changes to the test are designed to better reflect driving on today’s roads.

Also being considered is replacing the “reverse around a corner” and the “turn in the road” manoeuvres with more realistic everyday moves, such as parking in a designated parking bay or pulling over on the side of the road before then re-joining traffic.
