Allianz Sports Fund 2023 - Success Story

Posted on Aug 03, 2023

The latest Allianz Sports Fund 2023 grants have been awarded, and with our partnership with the WSA, we are delighted to say that a number of clubs we nominated received some great financial help because of it!

38 Clubs around the UK won Grants worth between £500 & £3000.

8 of those clubs were nominated by Watkin Davies which is a staggering 21% of all winners!

23% off all Watkin Davies nominated clubs received a Grant worth between £500 & £3000.

And here is just one of our Success stories – Gwent Table Tennis Club allianz-winners.png

Andrew Ryder from Gwent Table Tennis Club said:

We are very grateful to Watkin Davies for sponsoring our application to the Allianz Sports Fund. The grant of £1000 has been invested into our junior development initiative. The beginner’s session aimed at youngsters only started in January, but this money has already enabled us to achieve the following investments in the club. We have a core of 20/30 new youngsters playing the sport. It has been spent on.

1 - brand new bats - £400

2- Coaching equipment (nets and balls) - £100

3 - Two quality second hand tables £500

This sets up the club for the next 12 months in providing opportunities for everyone to play our sport. This grant has contributed massively to the growth in our club, and we can continue this work for the remainder of the year.

Chris Weeks – Head of Sports & Leisure at Watkin Davies said:

Everyone at Watkin Davies is pleased to see the grant being put to such great use. Congratulations to Gwent Table Tennis Club and the other 7 clubs nominated by Watkin Davies. The fund is extremely important to grass roots clubs and groups, a lifeline if you will, in what is exceptionally difficult times financially for grassroots sports and leisure in Wales and the wider UK. Thank you to everyone involved in the creation of the fund at Allianz and the Sports & Leisure team at Watkin Davies for working hard to make sure all entries were submitted in time.

The WSA Said:

The WSA are delighted to work in collaboration with Watkin Davies, to provide sports clubs the opportunity to access the Allianz Sports Fund. Through our combined efforts on this inituitive, we have been able to bring in an additonal £9.5k into the sports & Leisure sector in Wales this year.

We are hopeful that Allianz will open funding applications again later this year. Please keep an eye on our social media for further details in the autumn and how Watkin Davies can nominate your club or group.
